Mount Arrowsmith

Hiking up Mount Arrowsmith I came upon this scene and was struck by the lighting. The sun was coming in from left from under the clouds and gave the trail a surrealistic look.

The light in this late afternoon in March gave the picture an almost "sepia" tone to it.

Ozzymandias

While walking along the beach near a small town on the pacific coast of Mexico we came upon a cross in the surf. A small cemetery was eroding into the ocean. It was a sobering scene, reminding me that in spite of all our intentions, we are fleeting inhabitants of this plane.

Daytime in the Night

An interesting shot.... if you notice, you can see stars and a meteor trail in the sky. What looks like daylight is actually a time exposure of a full moonlit night. the orange is from a fire near the campsite. Because of the very bright full moon reflecting the sunlight the scene retained its proper white balance instead of the characteristic blue tint that night shots normally have.

Stubbs Island, just offshore of Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island was once a private preserve owned by an artist and later donated to the province... you can see many artsy works scattered about if you look hard enough :)

Forest reclamation...

At the turn of the 20th century, there were plans to run a railroad from Victoria to Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. WW1 interupted, and the tracks were never finished but much of the grade was done and many culverts were installed. This concrete culvert about an hour outside of port alberni was where the grade ended and is dated 1913. The forest slowly reclaims and covers mans works.
